WICKED: nominations at Chelmsford Film Festival
Just heard the guys at Chelmsfield Film Festival have nominated me as BEST ACTOR for FIGHTER!!……………AND they nominated Fighter as BEST FILM and Bugsy as BEST DIRECTOR!
Thanks Chelmsford and Thanks Bugsy for a great experience and great comments. Fighter has won so many awards there’s no more room on the poster!
‘Tommy is a trained actor through and through. He not only knew his lines but everyone else’s, he was prepared and ready at every step of the shoot and super professional. My approach to Down’s syndrome has completely changed since working with Tommy and that’s why I feel that we definitely need more inclusion of Down’s syndrome in mainstream media.’ Bugsy
Thanks too to champion Ryan Pickard It was wicked training with you.
Just discovered a wicked review of ‘Fighter’ – thanks UK Film Review
Just discovered a new review!
The performances are all strong and there is a lovely chemistry between Jessop (Fighter) and his brother Joel (Robbie O’Neill) which is the most affecting part of the final section of the short. Jessop handles the intense close-ups and close-quarter sequences with ease whilst mounting an increasing intensity to his physical performance which works wonderfully with the building tension made in the filmmaking. As the sound design becomes more ferocious, so does Fighter, and the sharp editing and darkened scenes are visually arresting, resulting in a captivating atmosphere which is impossible to escape
It was good working with Robbie O’Neill, Simon Kunz, Laura and Delroy and Bugsy and Jann – everyone!
Wicked! thank you

‘Fighter’ film gets a great review – ‘Lifeblood of the film’ thanks ‘Comicfade’
‘The film is a visceral and intense watch, the slow build of tension being perfectly complimented by the award-winning cinematography of the short. The visuals are utterly stunning and immersive that you become incredibly invested despite the short being just 7 minutes long.
…. yet another fantastic performance by Tommy Jessop. Anyone who follows this man’s career knows that even before this brilliant short film, this man was an inspiration to people facing any and all types of adversity, especially to the down syndrome community. He was the first actor with Down syndrome to star in a prime-time BBC drama, the first to ever portray Hamlet in any form of media, and in ‘Fighter’ he is the is the lifeblood of the film as the titular ‘Fighter’. His performance is considered layered, and regardless of disability puts on a phenemonenal character. ‘
